Art Deco of Bathroom

To summarize the situation: bathroom side, I’m not too bad lotie. Indeed in proportion to the size of my apartment (32 m2), my bathroom is spacious and comfortable. I have a bathtub. The dream of many people. I never take a bath and would prefer a bathroom with Italian shower . But in the meantime, I’m satisfied with this piece as it is. Nevertheless, I regularly think of my next apartment: more spacious, bright, with an Italian shower. But above all, I want a bathroom art deco!

And a second where I put all the beautiful pictures of bathrooms that I meet! On that date, when I move into a bigger apartment, I’ll be ready to create my art deco bathroom. And today, I wanted to share with you my most beautiful art deco bathroom inspirations unearthed right and left.

What is art deco?

First of all, I wanted to define with you this style that comes back to the front of the stage. I have already devoted an article to the differences between art nouveau and art deco. But let’s take a closer look at whoever is long my favorite!

Art Deco is an artistic movement whose beginnings are made during the 1910s in reaction to the Art Nouveau style nicknamed Art Noodle. Then the style is clearly imposed in 1925 at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris and ends with the beginning of the Second World War.

The characteristics of art deco in interior decoration

  • Decrease in the number of right angles in favor of circular and round shapes.
  • Simplification of shapes, stylization of patterns.
  • Important ornaments: ironwork, floral motifs, bas-reliefs, stylized statuary.
  • Omnipresence of geometric forms.
  • Order, color and geometry.
  • Repetitive reasons.

Art deco bathroom in colors

So in my bathroom art deco I want: stylized geometric shapes that are repeated, color and touches of brass.

If we believe the characteristics of the art deco interior decoration that I mentioned above, we will try to avoid the right angles. So, if in this room we usually like to have a large rectangular mirror, for an art deco bathroom, we will instead look for oval or round objects. He has the same for the luminaries.

So to find your perfect accessories, nothing better than to hunt on specialized sites like Selency, BrocantLab . But at a more reasonable budget, you will find quite satisfactory options. It will then be necessary to search in contemporary collections, the products making winks to this decorative style.

Bathroom art deco and brass

So I showed you beautiful examples colorful nevertheless I find that the bathroom monochrome is the one that must highlight the genre. Of course brass  always has a place of choice in this interior decoration.

The wallpaper is another solution to affix the iconic silhouettes of art deco style on the walls and at a lower cost. Graham & Brown , for example, offers similar patterns in their retro range.

How to create an art deco bathroom?

To summarize this article, I wanted to interpret the photos above to define the rules of the bathroom art deco.

  • The art deco bathroom must be strict, structured without flowers .
  • We favor the repetitive patterns,  graphics as well as the hexagonal shapes .
  • The black and white are the masters and the colored buttons are pink, coppery or golden.
  • You wear makeup in front of the trumeau mirror, beveled or barber.
  • On the ground we have fun with the geometry of cement tiles .
  • While on the walls, the subway tile, which with its bevels reflects the light makes the room more pleasant.
  • However, it is also possible to have fun with wallpaper.
  • In the bathtub on feet , the  faucet is apparent and vintage . Moreover, she takes part in the overall aesthetics of the piece.
  • But the sink is on foot too!
  • Finally, the room is illuminated by two emblematic style appliques placed by and others of the sink.
